What we do...

Our purpose is to nurture and support sustainability and environmental organisations in Greater Christchurch.

In order to fulfil this purpose, we base all activity on three strategic pillars.

Connect

Facilitate collaboration and innovation between associated groups.

Support

Provide support to environmental and sustainability groups and  their projects.

Educate & inspire

Provide support to environmental and sustainability groups and their projects.

What this looks like in practice

To facilitate collaboration and innovation between groups, we are working on activating two spaces in Christchurch. Our aim is to ensure these spaces are useful, usable, and used by the sustainability and environmental community.

The Kiosk, a centrally-located space inside the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. Shared with Canterbury Horticultural Society and Friends of the Botanic Gardens, this space is ideal for hosting workshops, meetings, talks, and presentations.

The Environmnetal Coworking space offers a collaborative, connected, and community-minded environment, addressing a variety of needs expressed by the environmental network. It provides not only a secure space to work from but also a range of meeting rooms for your use and a variety of storage options.

Creating Bumping Spaces

These spaces enable connection between groups – they are bumping spaces, they also provide a physical space from which we can deliver provisions and services. At Christchurch Envirohub, we focus on capacity building activity that responds to the needs of organisations in our network. For example, administration and communications support such as setting up funder database, creating and managing newsletters, or maximising the efficacy of social media tools. We also respond to needs and gaps at a sector level. To be responsive to community needs, we maintain open and active communication channels, including seeking regular feedback and input.

Focus Areas

To advance education and inspire action in environmental protection and sustainable living, we focus on three areas, particularly among associated groups but also the wider community.  These areas are believed to be of key importance if we are to collectively strive for environmental and community wellbeing in Greater Christchurch.

We focus on supporting and actively engaging with groups, projects and organisations (commercial and nonprofit) that:

– investigate and develop activities that pursue a more sustainable economy and economic activities;

– are working to reduce waste generated in and managed by the Greater Christchurch area;

– are working to address issues related to reducing the causes, and addressing the impacts, of climate change

We actively look to partner with those providing resources, running workshops, and creating pathways and outlets for advocacy and policy change.

Continuous Development

As part of supporting and connecting groups, as well as connecting the community to their projects, we will continue to develop this website to serve the needs of the sustainability and environmental community. We encourage you to connect with us and tell us what you need and what you want to see on here, perhaps you could even lend a hand as we strive to improve. At the moment, we are focusing on:

  • A searchable database of groups, organisations and resources in Greater Christchurch.
  • A centralised calendar of events and activities.
  • A network map showing connections between groups and organisations.
  • A cross-site booking facility.
  • Engaging content including blog posts, stories, and case studies.
  • Valuable content including downloadable resources and advice.
