Addington Bush Society

Addington Bush Society – Suburban oasis
In the heart of Addington, in the heart of the city, is an 850 square metre oasis of covenant bush. Formerly a scrappy wasteland – typified by a disused car and urban debris – Addington Bush is now protected by a QEII covenant, one of very few in an urban setting. For nearly 30 years, the work of the Addington Bush Society has transformed the site: fast-growing native trees are now 12 metres high and shelter the slower growing tōtara and rimu.

The bush, which can be visited by the public, is a few blocks south of Lincoln Rd but has no direct street frontage. About 20 families pay a small membership fee and maintain the land. The QE2 trust assists financially. Addington Bush Society secretary Pavla Fenwick and treasurer Graeme Cook talked about the society in a Stuff interview in March 2022.
